Anyone who has flown in recent years (decades) has experienced the unpleasantness of modern air travel. Invasive security measures, chaotically canceled or delayed flights, long lines at check ins, planes stuffed with the most unsavory specimens of human filth, endless hours trapped on the tarmac, as well as the overall spike in prices for tickets, are all part of the modern air traveler’s experience. Traveling by a plane today simply sucks.
And yet there was a time when air travel was a special luxury for those who could afford to do so. It was the golden age of air travel, before the hijacking of planes began, before the mobs of unwashed hordes began to fill the airports, before society as a whole traded in the decent, classy and self respecting sartorial fashions for today’s casual, nonchalant trashy messiness. There was once a time when planes tried to provide a comfortable experience, with food and drinks and comfort being of primary importance. There was actually a time when checking into an airport did not mean some retarded TSA worker trying to stick his or her finger up your anal cavity. There was a time when all the stewardesses were hot, female, and quite friendly.
As the photo shows above, yes, there was a golden age of air travel, now lost forever, but still part of a collective memory of a once blessed society. If only someone would start an airlines that once again catered to such tastes!

I’ve flown recently because I had to, but I would drive if I had the time, money, and choice.
The last great airline travel experience for a reasonable price was Midwest Express. All first class style seating, nice light breakfast with coffee and a glass of champagne.

Well, if you are in the 1%, then things are pretty good from a comfort perspective.

No doubt that air travel is probably safer overall than in the early days.

Sth,
Thanks for the comment. It sounds like you had a good flight experience with Midwest; too bad all airlines could not be like that.
And yes, I think air travel is no doubt more safer than the early days, although less pleasant. I suppose it is a trade off.
