Erotic Beauty As Art

True beauty…

Here is nice photograph. Some might call this porn; I call this art. There is wonderful play of light and skin here. It is strange, and perhaps quite unbelievable, that it is possible for me to view such a photo without becoming overcome by lust or sexual desire. It is simply a wonderful nude. It is pleasurable to view, like a sunrise is over a tropical ocean, or a waterfall high in the mountains. Of course, like all nudes, there is an inherent element of eroticism, but it is an eroticism which seems healthy, an eroticism which is an expression of the beauties of the female form, and, in turn, of life itself. There is much more to life than simply sexuality and eroticism, but a life devoid of these things, or a life that views sexuality as somehow dark and evil, is a life devoid of our basic humaneness. I think good erotic art can enhance our lives at least a little bit, and allow us to enjoy the beauties of sexuality in a good and healthy way.

The pleasures of being a deeply sexual person…

This is an interesting site: http://www.ishootporn.com/ It seems like an honest approach to porn, a behind the scenes look at the reality of the adult entertainment industry, as experienced by the women involved. Apparently the blog author, Billy Watson, is a creator of porn. He also has done some interviews with the girls, which I find quite interesting. I have often wondered the circumstances that surround the actresses in porn, and I am sure for each girl there is a different story. But one thing is clear: these girls love sex. After all, they would not be doing this if they disliked sex. Many clearly have some personal issues to work through, whether it be with drugs or self imagine; but it seems, based on these interviews, that most of the girls who work in porn are extremely sexual, naturally so.

As someone highly sexual myself, who enjoys the more forbidden aspects of sexual pleasure, I find a certain kinship with the adult entertainment world. I have known people personally who have worked in these environments, and they are indeed quite sexual. So whether it be through explicit films, or through written erotica, or erotic photography, or erotic art, it is almost as if there is a society out there of people who enjoy the unbridled pleasures of sex, to the consternation of the larger society around us. The older I get, the more liberated I feel, in a healthy way, from the mindless chains that have been placed upon sexual pleasure and eroticism in our society.

I always advocate a healthy sexuality. Whether the porn industry actually embraces that is hard to say; the very nature of such an industry makes me skeptical. But what I am not skeptical about is the sheer love of sex and sexual pleasure that those who participate in such a world possess. And I can understand that.

This delights a man’s soul…

Just a bit of beauty…when I don’t have time to write a more substantial post, this will do.

Did I mention how beautiful breasts are? I love the summer time: all those attractive women with their low cut shirts, blouses and dresses, their lack of clothing, their smooth, exposed flesh, their soft cleavage. Yes, it is a delicious feast for the eyes.

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus: Good But Not Great

Prometheus: humans discover their origins…sort of.

I saw Prometheus recently. Although a fan of many science fiction/horror flicks, I have to say that few are remarkably good. It is difficult to pull off a good film in this genre. The first Alien, directed by Ridley Scott, to which this film is loosely connected, is perhaps one of the best of these types of movies ever made. In its visual effects, the dark and cavernous background of the ship, it portrayed a futuristic world of space travel that seemed far more realistic, and terrifying, than most previous movies in this genre. Before Alien, most spaceships were depicted as roomy, bright and rather pleasant, with lots of happy colors and bright lights. Alien, with its shadowy, almost claustrophobic darkness, changed that forever. I remember when I first saw Alien I thought, “Yeah, this is way space travel in the future, if it does ever happen, will look. The ship will resemble more a giant, dank, dark and grimy oil tanker than a pleasant and sunny hotel resort. And what we find out in space might be unbelievably dangerous.” There was a grim darkness to Alien that appealed to me. It was not heroically gay, like Star Wars.

Sadly, Prometheus does not follow enough in Alien pattern. I can understand how Scott would want to branch off into a new story. He does this quite well. It is a good movie, entertaining, with well designed scenes of danger and terror. The story unfold well. But overall it lacks something. I cannot quite say what, but I was a bit disappointed when leaving the theater. Perhaps Scott, in his attempts to make a film with grand philosophical designs, namely, the origin of human life, overreaches. There are some topics that are simply too big for this or any film to tackle. This is one of them. You simply cannot deal effectively in two hours with such deep, metaphysical questions as the origins of human life. Film does not really lend itself to these questions. In doing so, you sacrifice a bit of good narrative. A movie can touch upon these ideas, tangentially, like 2001, A Space Odyssey, but, like that movie, the film should leave those ideas as merely somewhat confusing questions best left unanswered. And 2001 is a rather strange, although effective, treatment of these questions. What the hell was the monolith? No one knows. Best to leave it at that, as the ridiculous sequel, 2010, proved.

Scott, in attempting to render some sort of concrete, historical narrative for the origins of human existence, tends to make a film which is more in line with a tv show on the hunt for Bigfoot, than an truly deep science fiction film. I think if he had concentrated more on the origins of the horrific xenomorph alien, the creature of the first Alien film, rather than the origin of life on Earth, the film would have been more effective. I go to see most movies to be entertained, first and foremost, and not for philosophical speculation. Not that speculation can result from a film, a good film will produce that, but first and foremost the narrative and characters must be believable and effective. This concept of where man came from is too deep for any film to successfully depict. After realizing they have discovered the origins of mankind, the characters henceforth seem rather ridiculous. It is simply too big a topic for any character to live up to. On the other hand, a good movie about the sinister and potentially catastrophic consequences of biological weapons, which the Alien franchise hints at, as well as this film, is effective. Throwing in the origins of man in the process dilutes that simple but powerful theme. Like a strong hurricane running into even stronger headwinds, such huge themes often fray and damage the power of a film. A good film needs sharp focus. This is especially true for certain genres, such as horror or science fiction.

Nevertheless, Prometheus is worth seeing. The visuals are magnificent, and I rarely go a theater these days unless I know I am going to get good visuals on the big screen. It is entertaining. I felt I got my money’s worth. But if you are looking for the answers to who we are, where we came from, and the meaning of life, you are better off reading some philosophy, or attending Church some Sunday, than seeing this movie. If you want sheer terror and a stimulation for bad dreams, and a cynical notion of what space travel might actually look like someday, the original Alien is still unmatched.

One of the pleasures of summer…

In the deep warmth of summer, eroticism is felt more keenly. And with summer there is the blossoming of feminine beauty, oh yes, one of the delights of life. Summer allows us to enjoy this pleasure more completely. Here is a small reminder of all the beauty surrounding us. Amen.

Prayer

Prayer or meditation can transport us to better places…

Prayer is so important to life. All I can say is, that when life gets you down, when you feel great anxiety or fears for the future, when the greyness of existence seems heavy on your soul, prayer is a great relief. There are many forms of prayer. I have never tried meditation in the Eastern style, so my methods of prayer are more from the Christian tradition, but there are similarities between all forms of sincere prayer, regardless of tradition. Prayer to me is more akin to meditation, of releasing your mind, emptying your thoughts, and trying to feel or sense some sort of unity with the Divine. But it also soothes the mind too. There is a certain beauty to prayer. Prayer brings a certain calm and peace. I actually sleep better when I engage in steady prayer.

In this hectic world of ours, setting time aside each day for prayer and meditation can be a great benefit. Spend less time in front of the television, online, on the cell phone, or whatever, and spend more time in some type of contemplative prayer or meditation and your health will most likely improve, both mental and physical.

It is the positive effects of prayer on my mind and life that has always kept me close to God. Religion offers nice structures to pursue prayer, those ancient and contemporary methods of contemplation. If people have been engaging in meditation or contemplation for thousands of years, there must be something to these practices. When I do not pray, or when my prayer life falls off, then I feel the effects in my mind, a lessening of concentration, and deeper susceptibility to the cares of the world, and a distance from God. When I pray I simply feel healthier. In my overly simplistic ways of approaching life, this is more than enough to show me the great benefits of incorporating prayer in my life.

Eastern Spirituality

Nature is often a source of mysticism in Eastern religions…

Recently I have been reading about different world religions, some of which I had virtually no knowledge, mainly: Hinduism, Buddhism, Taosim and Shintoism. These are the main religions of the Far East (India, China, Japan). As is obvious from the countries, the number of adherents to these faiths is well over two billion. My readings on these have only be superficial, but what I have gleaned up till now is the very different approach to God and The Divine  that these Eastern religions have from traditional Western religions. As someone from the West, I have been completely inured to a relationship with God based on Judeo-Christian theology: sin, redemption, heaven vs. hell, good vs. evil, God as personal agent in history revealed through prophets and historical events such as the life of Christ, etc. God is one and only one, all powerful, an agent of history, a God of ethical morality and justice, the creator of the universe, a numinous power beyond all our comprehension and to whom we are completely indebted for everything. With Christianity he is also a God of personal love and devotion.

At present I don’t have much to say on this in depth, except that what impresses me about the Eastern religions is the emphasis on mysticism and personal connection with the Divine, as opposed to the often legalistic dogmatism of much of Western religions (Christianity and Islam in particular), a dogmatism which is often propagated and enforced by a clerical elite. The religions of the East seems less linear than Western religion, which emphasize the historical role of God in personal and social redemption. Hinduism, which is the world’s oldest continuous religion, perhaps as old as 4000 years (the oldest religious texts, the Vedas, were written around 1500 BC), is replete with a myriad of gods, divinities, and sects. The rigid dualism of good vs. evil which is such a part of Western religion seems less so in these Eastern approaches. There also seems to be less strife among the different faiths. The Eastern religions often mingle and coexists peacefully, and it is not uncommon to see elements different religions practiced by one individual. For instance, Buddhism and Taoism are often overlapped. No major war has ever been waged in the name of Buddhism, unlike with Christianity or Islam. There almost seems to be a sense of a greater personal freedom for the individual to find his own path to God. Recently I have become disillusioned with the stern dogmatism of much of contempory Christianity, not to the point of abandoning it all together, but to the point of questioning many of the fundamental elements of the religion which give rise to such a dogmatism. The internet is especially replete with heresy hunters.

Now, as far the spiritual goals of Eastern religions, and especially through the powerful influence of Buddhism, one of the main ideas seems to be the need to detach yourself from the world in order to gain enlightenment, and therefore a kind of union with the Divine. There does not seem to be a notion of the inherent sinfulness of man, something which we need to be cleansed from, as in Western religions, but rather the idea that we need to strive through prayer and meditation to overcome our baser natures, so that we can be open to the Divine. There is also the notion of reincarnation and freeing oneself from the endless cycles of birth and rebirth through spiritual practice. Again, my knowledge of this is sketchy, so these are only rudimentary thoughts. Taoism and Shintoism, the religions of China and Japan, also seem to have a particular sensitivity to the beauties and rhythms of nature as a means of gaining spiritual enlightenment and union with the God. This sensitivity to nature is familiar to some movements in the West. As Ninian Smart states in The Religious Experience of Mankind, in describing Chinese Buddhism tinted with Taoism, “This nature-mysticism has its analogies in other cultures, in Wordsworth, for instance.”

Now I do not plan on converting to these religions, but learning about them has given me a deeper insight into the ways in which people around the world have been searching for God and the The Divine for thousands of years. I can respect their traditions and approaches. It makes me realize how all of us are somehow seeking a spiritual truth, and that there are different paths to that Truth. That only increases my own faith in God.

Also, there is more openness to sex and sexual pleasure as a legitimate means of spiritual union with others, and the dark, almost sinister sexual pessimism of much of Christian thought is lacking, but that is a topic for another post.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the great English Romantic poet.

As far as the love and spiritual appreciation of nature inherent in Eastern religions, I found it interesting that Smart should make an analogy between the nature mysticism of Eastern religions and the English Romantics. Wordsworth is a good example of English Romanticism’s love of nature, but perhaps an even better example would be Coleridge’s great poem, Kubla Khan. Although Coleridge (1772-1834) wrote this tiny masterpiece while high on opium, it nevertheless expresses in a haunting way the strangeness and surreal beauty that is often found in Eastern religions.

Kubla Khan, by Coleridge.

I decided to post the poem in its entirety here. It is one of my favorites. I don’t think there is poem in English which better expresses a kind of Eastern mysticism.

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.

So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round:
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover!
A savage place! as holy and enchanted
As e’er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover!
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
A mighty fountain momently was forced:
Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher’s flail:
And ‘mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
It flung up momently the sacred river.
Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean:
And ‘mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war!

The shadow of the dome of pleasure
Floated midway on the waves;
Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.
It was a miracle of rare device,
A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice!

A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw:
It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount Abora.
Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight ‘twould win me
That with music loud and long
I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome! those caves of ice!
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed
And drunk the milk of Paradise.

How I Love the Female Form

The beauty of breasts is divine…

Although I generally consider myself to be an ass man, I must admit that I am also quite in love with a woman’s breasts. I realized this more fully the other day. I simply noticed this one particular girl who had a lovely chest: large, round and bouncy. She wore a low cut blouse with a lacy, delicate design and as she moved her breasts did as well. In this era of fake boobs one can never be sure of the legitimacy of such a sight, but I was pretty sure they were real. They had that “real” look: not quite perfect, but round and full and, the most important element of all, soft and jiggly. Fake breasts tend to be static and artificial looking, too round and hard, like someone simply cut a basketball in half, then inserted each half beneath each breast. Whenever I watch porn and see an actress with fake breasts, I move on to the next clip. I really dislike fake breasts.

What I love about breasts (the real ones) is that they are so visible. It is the one erogenous zone of the female body that many women are not afraid to show off. Many actually enjoy to show them off. Recently I have noticed an increase in cleavage. If so, then I have to say, “thank you!” to all those wonderful girls out there who display their milky mounds so brazenly. To see the soft, smooth flesh peaking through a low cut blouse, like some delicious fruit dangling from a blossoming tree, is a heavenly experience. I get hungry just looking. It is also beautiful. Yes, how I love the sight of a lovely chest, any chest, soft and alluring and full of a woman’s sexuality! After all, breasts are sexual. They scream sex. They demand sexual attention. It has been speculated that the upright position of humans allowed breasts, which exist to provide nourishment to an offspring, to evolve into something erogenous, a means of attracting potential mates. A woman stands up straight and we see her breasts and thus are aware of her sexuality and fertility. As far as I know, this is a feature of breasts unique to humans among all creatures.

The pleasure of breasts is divine too…

Plus breasts are simply fun. They are always the first thing a girl lets you play with. Usually it starts out by feeling her through her shirt. Then there is a wonderful thrill in taking a girl’s shirt off, especially the first time, and finally seeing her naked breasts, the same breast you have fantasized about for so long. Girls are so different in size and description. Some have nice, large and full breasts, others are more petite and perky. Whatever the case, a man is never disappointed by breast size. The unique feel of her soft, smooth mounds beneath your hand, or even better, in your mouth, is an experience one does not forget. And then there are her delightful nipples. Some girls have small nipples; others bigger nipples; some nipples are pink or red, others are more flesh toned or brown. As far as stimulation, most girls love to have their breasts kissed and licked and sucked, and more than one girl I have been with has nearly orgasmed from such stimulation. As one girl told me, after I had pleasured her breasts for a good long time, and made her incredibly wet, “It feels as though there is a nerve running straight from my nipples to my clitoris.” And then of course there is the delight of the erect nipples, whether you see them by accident through her shirt, or whether you stimulate them yourself in different ways. The sudden thrill of seeing a nice pair of nipples through a girl’s shirt never gets old. It is one of those nice surprises in life. You never know when it is going to happen, just that it will every now and then. Oh yeah.

Beautiful…

So yes, I love breasts. And I love the summer when breasts are most visible in all their delicate, delightful and delicious beauty.
