In honor of the terrible power of winter, which this winter never seems to relinquish, here are a few snow nymphs. Now, the snow nymph is not a creature from traditional mythology, perhaps being encompassed by the ubiquitous mountain nymph (known as an Oread in Greek mythology), but for the sake of this blog I have decided to highlight what I consider to be another type of nymph, the snow nymph.

This poor nymph needs some help: after I have helped her shovel the snow, some sweaty plowing would be in order…
As we get lots of snow right now, we should not be be too cavalier in our beliefs about these strange and beautiful creatures that lurk behind the gentle, capricious and often dangerous snowfall.
Yes, so let us enjoy these lovely creatures of winter delight as long as winter still lasts, which mercifully won’t be for too much longer.
