A recent study in the Journal for Sex Research reveals that porn stars are actually happier, healthier, and enjoy sex more than the average person: http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/12/porn-stars-are-happier-than-you.html
Although I have not read the study, it comes from an objective, academic, peer reviewed journal and is not some superficial piece of writing. It is actual research and scholarship.
The study concludes: “In terms of psychological characteristics, porn actresses had higher levels of self-esteem, positive feelings, social support, sexual satisfaction, and spirituality compared to [other women]” Porn actresses tend to be healthy and happy in ways that belie the common stereotypes of them as damaged, sexually abused beings. Some are damaged, to be sure, (as are some people in any walk of life) but many more are women who simply enjoy sex more than the average person. It only makes sense that highly sexual people would enter the adult entertainment industry. According to the study, 69% of porn stars said they greatly enjoyed sex, as compared with only 39% of the general population. As this author points out: http://jezebel.com/5963606/sorry-second-wave-feminists-porn-stars-are-actually-emotionally-stable-self+confident-women-who-werent-molested-as-kids, one of the keys to understanding this may be that women in porn are more comfortable with their bodies than the average woman. After all, they have to be. Previous studies reveal that women who go to topless beaches are also more comfortable with their bodies, had higher self-esteem, and therefore enjoyed sex more. Sex is a physical activity, and being uncomfortable with your body is naturally going to inhibit sexual activity.

A woman comfortable with her body is more likely to enjoy sex. Most porn stars are comfortable with nudity.
This is bad news for the old, hag feminists such as Andrea Dworkin or Catherine MacKinnon, two of the most anti-sex, anti-porn, anti-nudity, “all men are rapist” bitch-harpy feminists who ever walked the face of the earth. I don’t much, or really care to know that much, about feminism, but I do know that among the younger set of women today who might identify themselves as feminist, many are actually pro-porn and certainly pro-sex. They often reject the anti-sexual radicalism of the older generation of witch feminists, such as Dworkin or MacKinnon. They not only enjoy sex and porn themselves, but see such enjoyment, and the choice thereof, as a form of female freedom and empowerment. I personally love a girl who loves porn and sex!

Andrea Dworkin, the literal personification of the man hating, anti-sex, anti-porn, old fashioned butch, hag, hideous witch feminist.
This is also bad news for the moral crusaders and conservatives, religious or secular. The recent Republican candidates for president revealed how many people out there are still trapped in a nineteenth century view of female sexuality: namely, the woman as an asexual, pristine moral being who is devoid of all the nastier sexual proclivities once thought to belong exclusively to men. The actual sexual experiences of contemporary women tend to say otherwise.
This is an interesting study, and only time will tell if its findings are legitimate or not. I think they are, based not only on the quality of the journal publishing the study, but also on my own experiences with female sexuality. One of great delights of my life has been discovering the hidden, feral nature of female sexuality among different women, or helping women discover that sexuality for themselves. Such discoveries, such mutual pleasure sharing, are indeed a great delight.

Just so you know… not all feminists of yore were man- and sex-haters. Take, for example, Susie Bright.

Sven,
Quite true. Unfortunately most were man haters. Dworkin and MacKinnon were the most visible of such harpies.
